I have been doing further research. New names to add from Dyer County. Dunivant,Doyle,Rogers,Harris . A Dunivant male and a Haley Ann Featherston My great-grandmother was Dunivant who married a Mason. This is so exciting.
Presently, I am in Muncie, Indiana where the 2 Mason brothers migrated to in the late 40 ties.
Just a note to say thank you. I was looking for the oldest black family in Dyer County, Tennessee and your site came up. I am part Sharp and part Mason. Some of the older Sharps spelled their name with and "e" Sharpe. I did some research back in the late 70ties (before the internet) in Salt Lake City.
I am just beginning to research my family history beyond oral history and find that I do have relatives in Kinston, NC who are Koonce's. We will be having a memorial service for my Aunt in May 2009 and are trying to gather as many family members as possible. One cousin in Kinston at our last reunion there in 1981 is Galena Koonce and I am trying to locate her. Thank you for this wonderful website.
I am elated to have found this site. I am researching the African American Koonce, Davis, Fielder, Swift, and McCurn families. It appears that they may have been in N.C. prior to Friendship, Tenn.
A very interesting family history. I am trying to write my family history. This is an example of what can be done. Keep up the good work. I will read this family history again and again.
